Thorstein Veblen

A New Narrative

The Whole Is Greater Than the Sum of Its Parts

Veblen’s work cannot be fully understood within the confines of a single academic discipline, such as economics—or even within an entire category like the social sciences. To grasp the full scope of his insights, I realized that the whole of his work is greater than the sum of its parts. What is needed is a transdisciplinary approach that synthesizes knowledge from across the human sciences spectrum. The Veblen Reimagined blog seeks to create the “cosmological” lens through which to understand Veblen’s revolutionary socioeconomics. Look for new posts that weave together a broader, more cohesive mosaic of Veblen’s pioneering work.
